Phiri returns to Free State Stars for this season replacing Nigerian Goodwin Kuku Owua. Owua took over from Zimbabwean caretaker player-coach Wilfred Mugeyi in the closing stages of the 2006/07 season. Mugeyi was briefly in charge following the sacking of Roy Barreto in March 2006. Barreto was winless in his 7 matches in charge since re-assuming the reins from Kinnah Phiri in January 2006 who had an equally dismal record of 0 wins from 9 matches.
