Emodi signed a 1½ season contract in January 2006 following the departure of interim coach Clive Barker in December 2005 but failed to avoid a drop to the Mvela Golden League. Emodi is the 2005 African Coach of the Year having guided top Nigerian club Enyimba to the 2004 CAF Champions League title.
Barker assumed the reins on October 25 2005 from temporary coaches
William Mugeyi and Tauya Mrewa who had held the fort after Mlungisi "Professor" Ngubane resigned on September 21 2005 winless in six matches.

Ngubane had been appointed head coach on March 16 2005 just one month after losing his job at Golden Arrows and one week after the resignation of Bruce Grobbelaar who had spent an unsuccessful four months at the club since taking over from interim coach William Mugeyi in November 2004.
