| A qualifying system was introduced for the first time by football's world governing body
FIFA to decide which African team will play at the Women's Olympic
football finals. Nigeria's Super Falcons claimed the spot following
a 1-0 win (3-2 aggregate) over South Africa in Abuja on 30 March 2004.
In the two previous Olympic Games FIFA have chosen just eight
countries to participate based on past performances at the Women's World
Cup.
