The Vodacom COSAFA Under-20 Tournament 2001

23 November - 2 December 2001, South Africa

2001 Champions: Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe captured this year's trophy on a penalty shoot-out.

Eleven African countries converged in South Africa for the 10 days competing in the oldest  African soccer showpiece in the region which commenced 1983.

Vodacom replaced SASOL as sponsors pledging R1m to the event. Praising Vodacom, Ishmael Bhamjee, president of COSAFA, said at the launch:  "I hope that Vodacom will be able to plough into other countries as well so that the hosting can rotate."  South Africa is now hosting the tournament  for the third year in a row.

Soweto's famous Orlando Stadium, Eldorado Park and the Alexandra Stadium are the three venues which will be used.
