Confederation of Southern African Football Associations Cup 1999

1999 Champions: Angola

The Confederation of Southern African Football Associations saw the 1999 edition of the COSAFA Castle Cup being played on a knockout basis, involving all 10 of the confederation's member countries.

Defending champions Zambia and runners-up Zimbabwe were given byes into the last eight of the competition and were joined by preliminary round winners Angola, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa and Swaziland.

The preliminary round saw the highest ranked nations in the FIFA world rankings play against the lowest four, away from home. There was no extra-time with drawn matches heading straight into a penalty shootout.

The draw for the quarter-final was made on May 29. Again, the FIFA world rankings determined the seedings but the home venues were drawn randomly.

In the semi-finals, there was no seeding and a draw determined the line-up and venues.

The final was played over two legs with extra time and penalties being the option for determining the winner in the event of a draw.

At the end of the year, the organization was renamed the Council of Southern African Football Associations.
