2001 Champions: Angola

Angola won the COSAFA Castle Cup for the second time after beating Zimbabwe 1-0 in the dying minutes of their away leg.

The COSAFA Castle Cup is the most lucrative regional cup on the continent offering R1.57 million in prize money.

This, the fifth tournament, equals the highest ever total of 11 participant countries. Madagascar was disqualified for failing to participate in the 2000 COSAFA Cup Under-20 Tournament, while Seychelles, the 13th member country, was excluded due to 'budgetary constraints'.

The four winners plus the best loser entered the quarter-finals, along with Angola, Lesotho and holders Zimbabwe who had byes into the last eight.
