| Brazil captured the title
for the first time in 8 years following a 4-1 victory over Argentina.
The competition brings together the respective
champions of FIFA's regional confederations and has its origin in the Intercontinental
Championships first held in Saudi Arabia in 1992 with continental winners from Africa,
Asia, South America and North/Central America competing. Saudi Arabia also hosted the
second Intercontinental Championships in 1995 which included Europe for the first time.
