2000 champions: Orlando Pirates

Captain Thabo Mngomeni converted a golden goal penalty to give Orlando Pirates a dramatic 2-1 win over Ajax Cape Town in this year's final, their 7th Top 8 Cup win.

After a four-year absence, the 2000 version of the BP Top 8 finally kicked off on 22 July with the top 8 eight teams in the PSL log at the end of the season qualifying.

The first round was structured such that the team at the top of the 1999/2000 PSL Table played the team that finished eighth; second place played seventh; third played sixth and fourth played fifth.

There was a fresh draw for the semifinals.
