Champions: Nigeria

For the first time in history there was a women's soccer tournament in the All Africa Games won by Nigeria in the final against South Africa.

Hosts Nigeria were drawn against Zimbabwe, Ethiopia and Cameroon. DR Congo replaced Ghana in Group B which included South Africa, Mali and Algeria.

Both the men's and women's tournaments are restricted to players under 23 years of age.
