1999 Champions - Ghana
The Under-20 African Championship has been held every two years since 1979 for the FIFA World Youth Cup.
Four teams plus World Youth Cup host, Nigeria, qualified for the African section of the FIFA World Youth Cup. Since Nigeria were among the first four, a play-off was held to determine the fifth entrant.
