Hosts Congo won their first ever Youth title edging defending
champions Nigeria 1-0 in the final. Both sides have qualified for the
FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada starting in June.
The U20 African Championship is held every two years and is the CAF qualifying
stage for the FIFA World Youth Championship first held in 1977.
Until 1989 the African representatives were determined purely on a qualifying basis
with no African title on the line. Since 1991 there has been a qualifying stage and then a
final tournament played by 8 teams in a chosen country.
The four semi-finalists qualify for the 2007 World Youth Championship
to be held in Canada from June 30 to July 22.
