African Club Cups 2004
List of Qualifiers

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on April 4 2003 that twelve countries are to be allowed to have a second representative in the expanded 2004 CAF Champions League.

Algeria, Angola, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, DR Congo, Ghana, Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia were named by CAF as the countries who have performed best in continental club competition over the last five years.

They will also be allowed to have two representatives in the new Confederation Cup, which is to be launched in 2004 to replace the African Cup Winners' Cup and the CAF Cup.

This will give each of the 12 countries four representatives in continental club competitions, one more than normal. The winner and runner-up in their respective leagues will be eligible for the 2004 Champions League while the national cup winner and the third place finisher in the league qualify for the Confederation Cup. [See exceptions below].

Both competitions will start with a maximum of 64 teams. The last eight teams in the Champions League will be divided into two groups of four with the top two in each group qualifying for the semifinals.

The 8 teams who are knocked out from the Last 16 stage of the Champions League will be integrated into the Confederation Cup and will play, in a direct elimination round after a drawing of lots, against the last eight in the Confederation Cup. The eight remaining teams will then be divided into two groups of four with the group winners going directly to the final of the Confederation Cup.
