African FIFA Rankings 2007

This month marks a 50% devaluation of the 2006 World Cup and other matches in that period resulting in some surprising changes in the rankings.

South Africa draw 1-1 away to Congo in an African Cup of Nations qualifier; they drop two African places to 14th and seven World spots to 64th.
Swaziland lose 3-0 away to Angola in an African Cup of Nations qualifier; they lose two African places to 44th and three World spots to 147th.
Namibia draw 1-1 with DR Congo at home in an African Cup of Nations qualifier and beat Malawi 2-1 in an away friendly; they drop two African places to 36th and three World spots to 126th following devaluation of 2006 results.
Zimbabwe play no matches; they drop two African places to 23rd and six World spots to 96th.
Notable gainers:
- Benin (19, up 7 Africa, up 18 World) climb to their highest ever ranking following a 4-1 thumping over Togo in a home African Cup of Nations qualifier. They are African Movers of the Month.
- Tanzania (28, up 5 Africa, up 13 World) beat Burkina Faso 1-0 away in an African Cup of Nations qualifier.
Notable losers:
- Burkina Faso (18, down 5 Africa, down 25 World) are at their lowest ranking in 10 months following their home loss to Tanzania in an African Cup of Nations qualifier and are African Losers of the Month.
- Ghana (5, down 3 Africa, down 18 World) pay the penalty for their inactivity as automatic host-nation qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations.
